It is recommended that the system be fed with water that is below 10 gpg of hardness. If your water is above that, you should use an Anti-Scalant or water softener. The blending valve and electronic monitor allow you to dial in the exact degree of hardness you want. The carbon pre-filters are key components to this system as it removes both chloramine and chlorine. It is virtually impossible to remove significant amounts of chloramine with just a cartridge.
